You shall no longer know me as Jen.
Beth just told me that she wished Eric and I had different names.
Charles and Caroline, to be specific.

Yep, that's right. She wants us to be the parents from the Little House on the Prairie books.

There's Pa, chopping logs.

There's Ma, shoving a bear out of her way. If only our names really were Charles and Caroline. Then look how hard-core we'd be!
I am interpreting this request as proof that I have now instilled my love of these glorious books into another person.
My work here on earth is done.

This is a great article about who wrote what, perhaps, and it turns out... Rose may have been the world's first ghostwriter!
How wonderful! It is time for me to get a set of those books I suppose!!!
We were listening to those books on CD this summer and I was struck by how weird it is that I'm the parent now and not the little sister. Of course I'm still a little sister but I was thinking from Caroline's perspective instead of Laura's and it was a very different view of that little house on the prairie.
I bought Beth a copy of Ramona the Pest to celebrate starting kindergarten. I hope she enjoys the Ramona series as well.
Nana
Your title caught my attention!
I was just eyeing those books at the library, wondering if my kids were old enough to enjoy them. We're reading some EB White right now but I think we'll do little house next. :) I'm always afraid that if i read all my childhood favorites to them too soon it will take the thrill out of reading them by themselves for the first time. What do you think?
There's a great podcast on This American Life about how books change people's lives--and one of the stories they cover is about a young woman who loved the Laura books, who moves out to South Dakota in order to connect with the landscape of the Ingalls' world. You should listen--you'd like it.
We listened to those books last summer. They are wonderful!
